Don't judge a book by its cover!!

I learned some phrases about “Book” , I will tell everybody what the phrase means.

1. If someone say you do things “By the book”, it means you follow all the rules for doing something. For example, you can say “My friend always does everything by the book.”

2. “Throw a book at someone” means to punish someone when they have done something wrong. For example, you can say “My mom threw a book at me because I broke a plate.”

It doesn’t mean that my mom really threw a book at me, but she punished me in other ways.

3. “Take a page from someone’s book” means to copy what someone else does because they are good at doing it. For example, you can say ”Maybe I should take a page from my friend’s book and start exercising more. “

4. “Don‘t judge a book by its cover” means not to form an opinion of someone only by their appearance. I think this is easy to understand. For example, you can say “I was wrong to think Amy is not kind. She helped me when I do not understand the homework, so I should not judge a book by its cover.”

5. “Cook the book” means dishonest, usually to get money. It is kind of hard to understand or imagine. For example, you can say “He cooked the book and took some money from his mother.”
